Over 40 Hours of Free Community Activities Delivered in One Week

10 October 2026

AUGB Glasgow delivered more than 40 hours of free activities in a single week, bringing together children, teenagers, young people and adults through education, creativity, culture and community connection.

Across the week, the programme included 14 different types of activities, ranging from English classes and creative workshops to intensive youth programmes, music, filmmaking, drama, wellbeing activities, board games and film.

Several new programmes reached important milestones. The Documentary Filmmaking Course, led by Ukrainian filmmaker Polina Moshenska, began with its first practical workshop, introducing participants to documentary storytelling and the development of their own film projects.

The five-session Youth Media Lab also concluded during the week. Participants developed skills in photography, video, mobile editing, storytelling and social-media content creation, with certificates awarded on completion.

Other activities included Together Through Music, English A1 and B1 classes, English Speaking Club, Art & Well-being for Teens, Stitch & Speak, Seniors Club, Explore Ukraine Club, Level Up for Youth, Drama Classes, children’s art sessions and Board Games Club.

The week also included the second meeting of the Film Club, featuring the Scottish classic The Wicker Man (1973). The screening was followed by a moderated discussion with Scottish guest co-moderator Jay Martin, allowing Ukrainian participants to explore Scottish cinema, folklore and cultural traditions and compare them with themes in Ukrainian cinema.

Beyond its own programme, AUGB Glasgow volunteers also supported the Commonwealth Community Festival of Sports, Music & Culture at Victoria Park, helping welcome visitors and deliver activities over two days.

The week demonstrated the scale and variety of AUGB Glasgow’s year-round work: creating accessible opportunities to learn new skills, meet others, explore Ukrainian and Scottish culture and build a stronger community in Scotland.
