More Than 200 People Join Ukrainian Independence Day Demonstration in Central Glasgow

24 August 2026

More than 200 people gathered at St Enoch Square in central Glasgow to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence and stand in solidarity with Ukraine.

The demonstration brought together members of the Ukrainian community, supporters of Ukraine, community representatives and young Ukrainians for a public act of remembrance, unity and visibility in the heart of the city.

During the event, participants honoured those whose lives have been lost, joined in prayer, listened to speeches from community representatives and Ukrainian youth, and took part in shared cultural moments that reflected both remembrance and resilience.

A particularly powerful moment of the day was the creation of a living Ukrainian flag, followed by participation in the international Chain of Unity / The Free World Gathering.

The demonstration showed the strength and visibility of the Ukrainian community in Glasgow and created a meaningful opportunity to mark Independence Day not only as a national celebration, but also as a public expression of solidarity, identity and collective hope.

AUGB Glasgow sincerely thanks everyone who joined the gathering and helped organise this important event.
